Hope Gap

William Nicholson tackles the difficult question of how to survive a moribund marriage and accept your relationship to love in his second directorial effort. Grace (Annette Benning) and Edward (Bill Nighy) deliver exquisite performances playing a married middle-class couple who have grown apart. When Edward announces that he’s in a relationship with another woman, both his wife and their son, Jamie (Josh O’Connor), are unexpectedly thrown into a terrain of confusion and desperation.
In this state of crisis, a deep connection between a  mother and a son who have hardly ever truly communicated rises powerfully to the surface. Through the process of redefining their broken relationships, all three learn that they are a family, and will always be, but in new and challenging configurations.
